Adventures in Nature

One of the major factors for deciding to start Sarah Larkin Design was my family. By creating a studio on my property, I am more able to go on field trips, volunteer in classrooms, and utilize my time more efficiently so that I CAN have it all!!!

Being my own boss, I gave myself permission to accept an invitation to beautiful Drakesbad in Lassen Volcanic National Park. I love being a great boss!

I believe frequent unplugged family nature time is a necessary component to my overall well-being.

I have been given the opportunity to strip down my life, and the ability to carefully select what and I want to incorporate into a life that feels satisfying, calm, balanced, and a life I’m proud to lead.

That life definitely includes lots of outdoor adventures with the kiddos.

Part of what makes me good at my job is the connection I have to flowers and to people. Part of what makes me great at my job as a wedding and event florist, is the realization that when I feed my soul and live a balanced life, my creative juices just go and go.

Let me tell you, after this weekend, my synapses are firing like crazy!! One of the simplest, and most exciting, things for me was the piles of lichen all around. I couldn’t help but get excited when I saw it! It’s so vibrant and squishy! Anytime I can see something in the wild that I’ve only seen in plastic at the wholesaler, is a win in my book.

We did some hikes, and one particular one, I got some one on one time with my son. Literally…there I am hauling him around!

He was telling QUITE the story back there I’m sure!

We found a little creek where people had made paddle wheels out of branches and wood. There was one set on two forks going really well and remnants of other attempts nearby. We spent time collecting pieces and trying different methods; my son got his shoes and socks wet, and I soaked up the cool sun and enjoyed the precious moment in time with no chores, no crying, no to-do lists, no agenda. I felt truly connect to the earth and my family.

There are different components in my life and they all come together to form one large web. I try and make the choice everyday to build and nurture a web full of harmony between the earth, myself and others. Day after day of choosing that path has led me to pursue avenues I never would have considered.

Oh, and we never would have met Buddy!!!
