Hi Friends, I thought I would start off this Thanksgiving week with gratitude. Seems appropriate 🙂 I am so grateful for my customers and community. It is you that has made it possible for me to be homeschooling my children AND delivering my creations throughout …
As I trimmed alstroemerias, bachelor buttons, kangaroo paw, bougainvillea, lavender and greenery from my garden for an order, I thought, “This is the life I love to live !” I bet you can imagine how amazing I felt after having that thought!
So, if you’re reading this, thank you for supporting me living my best life as a human, a mom, an avid gardener, floral designer, business owner and entrepreneur.
For me, being able to cut directly from my garden while the kids are playing on the trampoline or swimming in the pool is such a beautiful experience! Having a home-based studio allows me to integrate the things I value the most into a life that flows, and when I flow I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO GIVE! It’s pretty awesome 🙂
Here is today’s garden bouquet of snapdragons, bachelor buttons, lavender, statice, bougainvillea, and alstroemerias:
I think I will create a subsection on my website for the arrangements that come solely from my garden. The flowers will change with the season…What do you think?
I’m excited to see where this idea goes. Look for the new Garden Grown section in the next few days! In the meantime, if you want to order a $25 Garden Grown vase arrangement now, click HERE
Also, a fun update is a tipping option on the checkout page. If you try it, let me know if you have to input your credit card twice. If so, I’ll need to research how to fix that…thank you for your patience on this tech journey!!
Dear Friends, First, I want to wish you and your family wellness in these unprecedented times. Second, I want to offer you Sarah Larkin Design’s response to COVID-19. The immediate concerns that needed to be addressed were my Spring brides and their unfortunate need to …
This Valentine’s Day, Sarah Larkin Design is going BIG! 2020 is the year of abundance. To have an abundant life, you must create abundance. Has it been awhile since you’ve sparked romance? Sarah Larkin Design has created a collection that will jump start an abundance …
A year and a half ago I walked into KLJ Studios as the newly formed business: Willow Floral Design. Kelly and I clicked instantly. She loved my passion, and I loved her exuberance. It was out of that meeting that so many parts of me came forward. Kelly helped me to commit to believing in my self 100%. It was this day that I chose to put my whole self out there and be Sarah Larkin Design.
Over the past year and a half, my business has grown tremendously and Kelly at KLJ Studios continues to support the evolvement of me as a female business owner as well as the success of my business.
Last week, I scheduled a personal branding session with KLJ Studios and Veronica Gersalia Makeup Artistry to freshen up the content of my website. Once terribly shy and riddled with self judgement, the idea of getting my hair and makeup done for a photo shoot of…myself…would have been rejected. Kelly and Vero have chipped away at those fears out come my “scrunchy face” as Kelly calls it. I must admit it is a much more enjoyable experience without all of that self judgement!
The day before the shoot, I went to visit my friend Lori at Heartstone Gardens. I love that she invites me onto her property to get inspiration. We wander the garden talking about our kids and business, and gather bunches of flowers as they grab my attention. I love that my business gives me the opportunity to connect with people like Lori on a deeper level, and the ability to support another momtrepreneur.
Lori’s garden provided much of the inspiration for the shoot. The spiciness of the scented geranium, the scruffiness of the scabiosa and the romantic frill of the lisianthus come together in this arrangement of elegance.
I am very simple when it comes to my jewelry so it comes as no surprise that I tend to go minimalistic and playful on my corsages and floral jewelry. I loved the geometric shapes within this dahlia. I knew I wanted to wear it as a bracelet as soon as I saw it.

This next arrangement features burgundy dahlias from my garden, double click pink cosmos, purple hyacinth bean, fresh green love-in-a puff and flowering Thai basil from Heartstone Garden. I love adding fresh herbs to table centerpieces. I think they enhance the culinary experience by prepping our senses and getting them ready and excited!
I ran into Rudy during my shoot. It was his birthday lol #norudynoparty
And for Kelly and Vero-the bloopers. They always say I make funny faces. Some of the faces of Sarah:
I was dancing with the wall while I waited for Kelly’s direction…I paused and she got the shot!
I think about this question often: “Why buy your flowers from me?” Flowers have become very accessible in the last ten years. Costco, Trader Joe’s, and grocery stores all carry flowers. How convenient (and often cheap)! I myself have occasionally purchased flowers from these establishments. …
One of the major factors for deciding to start Sarah Larkin Design was my family. By creating a studio on my property, I am more able to go on field trips, volunteer in classrooms, and utilize my time more efficiently so that I CAN have it all!!!
Being my own boss, I gave myself permission to accept an invitation to beautiful Drakesbad in Lassen Volcanic National Park. I love being a great boss!
I believe frequent unplugged family nature time is a necessary component to my overall well-being.
I have been given the opportunity to strip down my life, and the ability to carefully select what and I want to incorporate into a life that feels satisfying, calm, balanced, and a life I’m proud to lead.
That life definitely includes lots of outdoor adventures with the kiddos.
Part of what makes me good at my job is the connection I have to flowers and to people. Part of what makes me great at my job as a wedding and event florist, is the realization that when I feed my soul and live a balanced life, my creative juices just go and go.
Let me tell you, after this weekend, my synapses are firing like crazy!! One of the simplest, and most exciting, things for me was the piles of lichen all around. I couldn’t help but get excited when I saw it! It’s so vibrant and squishy! Anytime I can see something in the wild that I’ve only seen in plastic at the wholesaler, is a win in my book.
We did some hikes, and one particular one, I got some one on one time with my son. Literally…there I am hauling him around!
We found a little creek where people had made paddle wheels out of branches and wood. There was one set on two forks going really well and remnants of other attempts nearby. We spent time collecting pieces and trying different methods; my son got his shoes and socks wet, and I soaked up the cool sun and enjoyed the precious moment in time with no chores, no crying, no to-do lists, no agenda. I felt truly connect to the earth and my family.
There are different components in my life and they all come together to form one large web. I try and make the choice everyday to build and nurture a web full of harmony between the earth, myself and others. Day after day of choosing that path has led me to pursue avenues I never would have considered.
Oh, and we never would have met Buddy!!!
